A Living Kumbh of Devotion, Culture & Service

Bombay Durga Bari Samiti (BDBS) stands as one of Mumbai’s most cherished spiritual, cultural, and philanthropic institutions. In this, our 96th year of continuous celebration, BDBS continues to nurture devotion, promote culture, and serve the community — embodying the sacred spirit of a Living Kumbh.

Our Legacy

Founded in 1930, the Samiti was born out of a desire to recreate the spiritual vibrancy of Kolkata’s Durga Puja in Mumbai. Under the visionary leadership of Shib Chandra Bannerjee of Hindustan Construction and Shib Chandra of Bengal Lodge, the first Durga Puja was organized at Hindustan Compound, Sleater Road.

Justice Khitish Chandra Sen served as the first President, with freedom fighter Jagadish Chandra Moitra and Biharilal Das as Vice Presidents. The Samiti quickly grew into a center for cultural expression and spiritual celebration.

Our Philanthropic Mission

At the heart of BDBS lies a strong commitment to serve humanity. Through its charitable initiatives, the Samiti extends its reach far beyond the puja mandap:

  • Educational support for underprivileged children.
  • Medical aid for those in need.
  • Food distribution and Anna Daan.
  • Social outreach programs throughout the year.

Our charity reflects the deeper purpose of our existence: to transform devotion into action, and prayers into service.

A Sacred Community That Grows Every Year

Over these 96 years, BDBS has become a spiritual home for countless devotees and families — a place where generations come together to celebrate, volunteer, and serve. With every new year, we welcome new hearts into this Living Kumbh of Devotion, Culture & Service.
